The history of Chaumet watches
Founded in 1780 by Marie-Etienne Nitot. He had commissioned by Napoleon for both his wives and other prestigious people of the time. In c.1811 he designed and made a pair of gold watches for Princess Augusta of Bavaria adorned with pearls and emeralds.
In 1809 upon his father’s death, Marie-Etienne Nitot’s son, François Regnault Nitot took over the business which he continued until the fall of the empire in 1815. He then sold the business to the company foreman Jean Baptiste Fossin. Fossin and his son took inspiration from the Italian Renaissance and more natural themes. After the French revolution, they opened a boutique and a workshop in London under the watchful eye of workshop entrusted to Jean-Valentin Morel. He gained a Royal Warrant as he made jewellery for Queen Victoria. His son Prosper began to work with his father Morel.
In 1885 Prosper’s daughter Marie married Joseph Chaumet, who took over the design house. He created beautiful tiaras which were en vogue at the time., He also took inspiration from Japenese art.
In 1907 they set up a boutique and workshop at 12 Place Vendôme, where they remain today. Marcel Chaumet succeeded his father Joseph and his sons Jacques and Pierre succeeded him in 1958. In 1970 they took over the Breguet brand. Chaumet was purchased by Investcorp in 1987 and 1999 was purchased by LVMH, owners of brands such as Tag and Zenith.
Although initially a jeweller, Chaumet began making watches in the 19th Century and joined forces with as Jaeger-LeCoultre and Patek Philippe. There are various collections such as Liens, Class One, Dandy, and Jewellery Watches and was as Exceptional Dials and Precious Complications.

"An excellent company. I took my granddad's 80 years old pocket watch in person as I live locally. Jonathan was honest, straightforward and accurate with his estimate to clean, service & repair the watch. The result is excellent. The watch is now pristine, repaired and working. Thank you Jonathan!!"
"I found RBP to be a very helpful and responsive company for dealing with issues relating to repairing higher value items. Even when things didn't go quite to plan they got matters sorted out in reasonable time and dealt fairly throughout the whole process."
