Top 25 watch repair brands 2019
One of the most asked questions at Repairs by post is; “Do you repair [brand] watches?”.
There are so many brands of watches out there it’s hard to get a handle on it. So we thought this year we would make a shortlist of our “most repaired” brands. Our top 25 by no means signals which brand is more reliable - but it does give a bite-size chunk of the popular models our center catered for in 2019.
1. Michael Kors
Michael Kors is a fashion designer that has won multiple awards for his luxury accessories. The Michael Kors watch brand was established in 1981 and currently produces a range of products. This versatile brand has products that include accessories, footwear, watches, jewellery, eyewear and a full line of fragrance products.

Another watch range born from a fashion house. A designer collection of mens and ladies watches that contain styles for every occasion. From super sleek to chunky, at a fair price point, it is no wonder that Armani watches are consistently at the top of the best-seller list. Our current favourite is the Chronograph Black IP range but for the ladies, something much more classical, the Emporio Armani Gianni ladies watch.

Rolex is one of the worlds most famous watch brands. Initially called Wilsdorf and Davis in London in 1905, after its founders, is became Rolex in 1908. After WW1, high taxations were implemented, the company moved to Geneva, where it has remained ever since. Omega has produced many firsts within the watchmaking world. Omega created the first tourbillon wristwatch calibre in the world with the 30I in 1947. In 1999 Omega introduced the first mass-produced watch incorporating the coaxial escapement, invented by British Watchmaker George Daniels. Continuing into the new Millenium, Omega keeps producing world first. World’s first. In 2013 they introduced a movement that is resistant to magnetic fields greater than 1.5 Tesla (15,000 Gauss).

Raymond Weil became a market leader by 1976 when the brand’s namesake realised that the market required quality rather than the cheap quartz movements readily available and even today uses high-quality components — The components of the Raymond Weil range include quartz, automatic and mechanical. The brand is still family-owned and one of the last remaining family-run Swiss brands by the Weil-Bernheim family.

Ebel has carved a name for themselves in the horology world through their precision and design. So much so, that they’ve adopted the suitable slogan of “Architects of Time”. Their ultra-precise watches need periodic maintenance to ensure they are working their best.

The house of Christian Dior prides their brand on being forward thinkers of the fashion world, yet always remaining true to their rich history. The simple design of Mondaine watches was taken from the “Official Swiss Railways Clock”, designed by Hans Hilfiker, a Swiss Engineer and Designer in 1944. The Bernheim family-owned Mondaine watch company used this design as inspiration for their watch collections. With collections, evo2, stop2go, classic, merely elegant, Evo, Evo petite, Evo big, and Sport, all the watches contain the same similar simple designs as the 1944 clock.

Pocket-watches have been a long, fascinating history for the pocket watch. Pocket watches were firstly referred as a correspondent between the craftsman and the members of the upper class in the 15th century. In 1571 the first wrist watch was given to Queen Elizabeth I. However they did not become common as of the pocket watch until later in the 19th century. The Royal London is an antique coated ladies pendant pocket watch. It’s created with stainless steel casing and a stunning grey finish. The front of the case features the logo of the brand, and it opens up to a white a dial containing the numerals, and it includes a two-hand quartz movement.

Longines began life as saint-limer by Auguste Agassiz in around 1832, they originally sold pocket watches and were successful not only in Europe but also the united states where they had family connections. by 1867 they built their first factory with their own award-winning calibre 20a movement, in 1913 developed a wristwatch movement and by 1945 they released calibre 22a Longines automatic movement.

Junghans was founded on the 14th April 1861 by Erhard Junghans. In 1903 approximately 3000 employees were producing over three million timepieces per year. This made Junghans the largest timepieces factory. In 1970 Junghans developers were starting to create a quartz wristwatch. However, as time progresses, other companies start to work for the same goal. Junghans today in 2019 the brand celebrates a 100 years of an art school in Weimar which was founded in 1919 in Walter Gropius. The Meister Driver Handaufzug is a modern designed watch.

Founded by Louis-François Cartier in Paris in 1847, Cartier is a brand synonymous with luxury. In 1904 Cartier produced its first wristwatch, the Santos, named after the famous aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont complained to Louis about how difficult it was to use a pocket watch whilst flying. The Santos collection is still available today. My the late 1910s there were Cartier shops in Paris, London and New York. In 1919 the Tank was produced, inspired by the tanks used during the war. The Tank is still available today.

Since then, the brand has gone from strength to strength, garnering a well-deserved reputation for quality and precision.

Breitling was founded in Grenchen, Switzerland by Léon Breitling in 1884. In 1905 Léon Breitling patented a simple timer/tachymeter that could measure any speed between 15 and 150 km/h, the Vitesse, which allowed drivers (and then police) to calculate the speed at which the car was travelling.

IWC watches an important history in the watchmaking industry. Starting at the very beginning, the foundations of watchmaking in Schaffhausen were laid by an American, Florentine Ariosto Jones in 1868.
