The history of Corum watches
Established in 1955 in established at La Chaux-de-Fonds, a Swiss town that has gained UNESCO World Heritage Site status for its watchmaking industry.
In 1958 Corum produced the ‘Chinese Hat’ watch. The unusual shape engaged watch buyers. In 1960 The Admiral was produced with a hand-engraved ship on the back. In 1964 the Coin Watch was created, without a back and with an ultra-thin movement. The coin of choice was a $20 Double Eagle coin. In 1966 the Romvlvs was released with engraved Roman Numerals on the bezel. In 1970 the Feather Watch was released which contained a real feather. The style of Corum developed into the 1970s with the production of the Rolls Royce Watch in 1976. This was the first collaboration of its kind. Another first occurred in 1980 with the Golden Gate Bridge watch, designed by Mr Vincent Calabrese who created a movement with linear gear trains, mounted within a transparent exterior and isolated in space without any visible connection.
The intricate watchmakers and designers continued throughout the decades, with a redesign of the Admiral, the development of Tabagon in 1997 which enabled a wristwatch to turn into a table watch. In 2005 to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the Golden Gate Bridge Watch was redesigned.
Developments continued further. In 2013 the Ti-Bridge Automatic Dual Winder was produced, bringing the first self-winding movement to the Ti-Bridge line.
Corum is a brand with an established history that continues to develop technology and design.
