The history of Doxa watches
Georges Ducommun founded the Doxa company in 1889, producing mainly dress watches. It wasn’t until the 1960s that the Doxa brand began to focus on divers watches, which is what Doxa is known for today.
The orange face of the Sub300t was chosen as it was a colour that seemed to remain clearer in murky water and therefore was more suitable for a divers watch. It has a rotating bezel with the official U.S. Navy air dive table for no-decompression dives engraved onto its surface allowing the wearer to time their decompression. Initially rated for 300meters below sea level, later models reached up to 750 meters.
Although the brand produced quality diving watches, with the introduction of quartz watches from Japan in the 1970s, the Doxa brand closed in 1980. The brand is now owned by the Jenny family of Switzerland and is relaunching some of its best-known watches, including the Sub1000t and Sub1200t.
