The history of Eberhard & Co watches
Founded in 1887 by George Eberhard in La Chaux de fonds, Switzerland. By 1894 he had developed a watch with a patented time-setting system. In 1905 he developed another system which was also patented, this was for reading the hours and minutes.
In 1919 Eberhard launched his first wristwatch chronograph. Another patent followed in 1921 that protected the watch from the damp and dust.
In 1935 the first double pusher chronograph was launched and a few years later a chronograph with counter hours.in 1939 he developed the two pusher chronograph, allowing the wearer to register two different times. In 1940 the Extra Fort with sliding push button was produced.
In the 1960s the Contograf was produced. Ten years later the first quartz watch is produced by Eberhard & Co.
The innovation continues through the 80s and 90s and in 1997 The 8 Jours was released with an 8-day power reserve and patented special spring drive.
Continuing to the next decade, Eberhard & Co. remained at the forefront of design. In 2001 they released the Chrono 4, which is the first in the world to have the counters arranged in a row, a design that was patented. The design is modernised again only a few years later in 2005 with the counters arranged vertically.
Celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2007 with the release of the Chronographe 120eme Anniversaire and the company continue to produce beautiful, accurate, innovative watches today.
