Glashütte REPAIR AND WATCH MAINTENANCE TIPS
Setting the time.
If you need to change the time on your watch, it is advised to avoid manually doing so during the times of 10pm and 2am. This could interfere with the setting of your watch as this is when the date is automatically due to change.
Glashütte winding.
It is also advised that you do not deliberately shake a self-winding watch to wind it. This movement will be ineffective and could potentially damage your watch.
Glashütte recommends for maximum performance of your timepiece that users wind their watches before they reach the end of their power reserve.
If your mechanical watches have manual winding – it may need to be wound daily. This process will give your watch enough sufficient power to function correctly. If you are manually winding your watch, you must do this by turning the crown clockwise as far as it will go. This must be done gently; therefore, it is advised not to force it when it reaches this point. By putting too much pressure on your timepiece, you may be damaging the movement. If you are the owner of a self-winding mechanical watch, it will have an additional mechanism which will allow it to be automatically wound through the natural movement of the wrist.
If your watch has stopped or not worn for several days, this may mean it must be rewound using the crown. This will ensure the watch continues to function during periods of low activity (e.g. when sleeping).
It is advised that 20 turns of the crown are essential to provide your watch with plenty of energy. Keep in mind that the power reserve of a self-winding mechanical watch can vary depending on the movement of its wearer’s wrist.
CLEANING A Glashütte WATCH
If you are cleaning any type of watch, care should be taken. Glashütte metal and rubber bracelets and water resistant cases can be cleaned using a toothbrush. The process for cleaning a Glashütte watch is relatively simple, and the Glashütte official website recommends using a little bit of soapy water and drying with a soft cloth.
A Glashütte watch should always be cleaned after contact with seawater. In this case, you should always rinse your Glashütte watch with fresh water. Like every watch brand, to keep your Glashütte watch in pristine condition, it is recommended to avoid chemicals and cosmetics. Make sure that when you are wearing your Glashütte watch that you are avoiding contact with solvents, detergents, fragrances and cosmetics.

If your watch is exposed to a sudden change in temperature, for example, a sauna or diving into cold water after exposure to the sun, it could damage the movement of your watch.
WATER RESISTANCE FOR Glashütte WATCHES
Water resistance is added to protect your watch. However, it may wear off over time; therefore, you should always be careful with your water-resistant timepiece. To keep your watch safe in the water, DO NOT use pushers while you still emerge in water.
If you watch is certified as water resistant, to avoid water penetration that could result in a break in the mechanics of your watch, it is essential that you do not use pushers when the watch is in contact with water.
There is one exception to this rule. If you own the Glashütte Sea-Touch model. This model is specifically designed to be used underwater.
Glashütte WATCH STRAPS REPLACEMENT

Glashütte Original is a world-famous brand with humble beginnings. The brand sells exquisite watch designs that have been practised for over 170 years by German watchmakers; it is the “Passion, patience, rare skills and experience”, that make Glashütte watches the success that they are.
Renowned for their authentic, high-end, German design. Glashütte develops and creates 95% of their watch parts in-house.
The brand may be over 100 years old. However, Glashütte Original stands for modern design, original style, and high-quality construction. Glashütte intends to replicate Germany’s excellence in engineering and manufacturing in the form of their watches.
HISTORY OF GLASHÜTTE
GERMAN WATCHMAKING GLASHÜTTE
The birth of Glashütte can be dated back to 1843.
1843 was the year that Ferdinand Adolph Lange sent a detailed plan to the Royal Saxon government, stating that he intended to open a watch factory in Glashütte. It would be at this watch factory where he would train apprentices in the art of horology.
Lange’s plan was unique as he wanted the apprentices to work on one specialisation, and by doing so, he was enabling the foundation of industry in Glashütte.
After a trip to Switzerland, Lange was inspired by their practice and wanted to replicate it in Germany. This not traditionally how German watchmaking was practised. However, the Royal Saxon government liked the idea and agreed to the plan. Lange was then offered a substantial loan to kick-start his plan.
Of course, Lange’s plan flourished, and other brands set out to copy their success. So much that Glashütte watches started to be copied. Watch collectors were even fooled into buying fake Glashütte watches as brands from other countries produced timepieces with “System Glashütte” on the, in the hope that their sales would boost.
Glashütte responded by adding the word “Original” to their watches to indicate that they were from Glashütte. This is where Glashütte Original gets its name from today.
Glashütte survived World War II, and by the end of it, the watch factory suffered extensive damage. The company also faced more significant problems as the Soviet army demanded reparations from Glashütte in the form of tools and machinery. The Glashütte watchmaking industry was facing closure ultimately; however, the brand continued to make watches.
Due to the hard times that were faced by the brand watchmakers in Glashütte had to figure out how to make everything themselves as they could no longer rely on outside suppliers for springs, jewels. This made the brand more resilient and desirable.
GLASHÜTTE AND THE POCKET WATCH
It was 1865 when Glashütte began to design a simple, mechanically complete pocket watch. However, the brand exceeded their expectations and created a Glashütte precision pocket watch with a three-quarter plate, a gold lever wheel, and gold chatons. The watch was produced for eighty years with hardly any changes being made to it.
ORIGINAL GLASHÜTTE
It was 1916 when Karl W Hohnel marked a Glashütte pendulum clock with the phrase “Original Glashütte. Two years later, The German Precision Watch Factory entered the trade registry. This mark would state clearly that the timepiece was distinguishable and not make anywhere other than Germany.
MOVEMENT BLANKS AND WRISTWATCHES
Before the 1930s, two new watch companies were formed in Glashütte. The expansion showed the growing demand for wristwatches. It was in 1927, for the first time in Glashütte history a ladies’ watch was created that had the imprint Glashütte Original.
GLASHÜTTE DIALS & CASES
Glashütte Original is known for being a German brand that was born and raised in Glashütte. However, the dials and cases were made in Pforzheim. This is the traditional home of dial and casework for the German watchmakers.
These two cities are some distance apart — Glashütte only a stone’s throw away from Germany’s border, which is next to the Czech Republic. As for Pforzheim, it is on the Western border with the Alsace region of France.
When watch enthusiasts think of German watchmaking they would recall Glashütte, however, Pforzheim has a more extended and older association with the art.
The citizens of Pforzheim have been known for their skills in jewellery making and watchmaking from as early as the mid-1700s. The town was even named “Goldstadt” (golden city), due to the high prices of the watch and jewellery trades that hailed from there.
This part of Germany was also severely damaged during World War II, and in 1945, bombings killed a third of the town’s population. 80 per cent of its buildings were also destroyed, the reason why much of the city is modern construction.
LUXURY WATCH DESIGN
It was in 2000 that Glashütte Original was titled “Watch of The ear”. It was that year that the manufactory became a part of The Swatch Group Ltd. The brand says that it was “an important step for the growth of the locally renowned brand into a global luxury brand.
